The Importance of Estate Planning

There is a common misconception amongst the general public in which it is believed
that estate planning is only necessary for those advanced in age or those who have a
high net worth. In fact, this misconception goes as far as to scare people out of planning
because they feel they would bring about their own demise just by thinking of their
mortality.

As a tax attorney, I have often heard Benjamin Franklin’s quote, “. . . nothing
can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” If death is so evident to us all, then
why cower away from even a discussion of what would happen if you were no longer
around for your family and loved ones?

Our focus here at Skyline Law is not death so much as it is focused on life, because it is
the life you create for yourself and your loved ones that estate planning is supposed to
protect. Additionally, there are intangibles that are frequently ignored in standard estate
plans that we ensure are considered and included in the plan we create. For instance,
who our client’s are as individuals, their values, and beliefs, can be captured and shared
with their loved ones if and when they are no longer around. Incapacitation or death can
prevent parents from experiencing some of the most pivotal moments of their children’s lives.

Preplanning for such events and leaving personal messages to them goes a long
way in reinforcing the love they’ve felt from their parents while they were alive, not to
mention the financial support included in most estate plans.

These are just some of the ways that an estate plan prepared by Skyline Law will
ensure that all of your most important assets (you and your family) can be protected and
honored with thorough and conscientious planning. This is true whether you are in your
early 20s or at retirement age. There is no such thing as too early to protect your family
and wealth. Set up a free consultation today!
